Everybody’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. Or, at least that’s what my 91-year-old, first-generation, Irish-American Mom tells me. Erin Go Bragh!
I’ve been thinking about St. Patrick’s Day and the universal traditions associated with March 17th. Corned beef and cabbage, step dancing, Guinness and shamrocks are only a few examples of how this small island-nation successfully paints the planet green at least one day every year.
If you’ve ever visited the Emerald Isle, you know Ireland is magical –from the folk music in the country pubs to the live entertainment on Grafton Street.
From a business perspective, is there something we can learn from the land of leprechauns?
Clearly, the Irish mastered the art of storytelling long before it was fashionable. Having spent a fair amount of time observing the culture and the traditions, here are five essential ingredients to exceptional storytelling:
- MAKE IT PERSONAL.
- BE DRAMATIC.
- USE SYMBOLISM.
- EMBRACE EMOTION.
- MAKE IT REPEATABLE.
We all love a great story. Whether you represent a household brand or an anonymous B2B company, we need to take a page out of the Irish playbook.
At Westmeath, we believe every enterprise has a story to tell – you just need to know how to find it, shape it and make it part of your DNA. We call it Seanachai.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
