Take a Lighthearted Quiz This St. Paddy’s Day
St. Paddy’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. This year, however, we are faced with serious health, economic and social issues caused by the coronavirus. Virtually all of us are being confronted with COVID-19 and forced to make difficult and sobering choices.
During times of extreme stress, research tells us humans benefit from humor and laughter. Whether it be a simple smile or a lighthearted comment, injecting a little levity into a situation can go a long way to relieve tension, build bonds and boost morale.
According to the Mayo Clinic, laughter is good for your health. It may improve your immune system, relieve pain, increase personal satisfaction and improve your mood.
One 2016 Harvard study found that an appropriate, funny joke can make its teller seem more competent, more confident and of higher status. A 2009 study published in the “International Journal of Human Resource Management” showed laughter to correlate positively with creativity and motivation. The anecdotal and empirical evidence abounds.
